Park Ridge, IL (April 2, 2000): After going to the finals at the first three races of the 2000 season, defending champion Tony Schumacher and his Exide teammates look to make it four for four as they head to "the Strip" at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the inaugural SummitRacing.com Nationals, April 6-9.
Picking up where they left off in 1999, Team Exide has earned all but 50 national event points, have two runner-up finishes and one win in the short 2000 season. They come to Las Vegas as the NHRA Winston points leaders and have no plans on losing that distinction.
"Dan (Olson - crew chief) and the guys have this car running great," said Schumacher, "I can't wait to get to Las Vegas to get in the car again."
The time off between events as the season starts has been frustrating for the defending champions as they are chomping at the bit to make more passes with what has arguably been one of the best dragsters this season.
"The rules changes haven't hurt us and they seem to be working really well with the combination Dan has put together for this car. This is a brand new race car and we weren't really sure what to expect from it before the season started."
The Palace Station Hotel and Casino will come onboard as an associate sponsor and join Team Exide/MATCO Tools as Schumacher attempts to capture the SummitRacing.com Nationals title. Palace Station is one of four Las Vegas properties operated by Stations Casinos, Inc., with additional locations in Missouri.
"We are very excited to have Palace Station's support for the weekend," commented Schumacher, "it's great to have the chance to expose new people to NHRA Winston drag racing to show them what a great sport and fans we have."
Top Fuel Qualifying for the SummitRacing.com Nationals will be Friday, April 7 at 2:30pm and 6:30pm and Saturday, April 8 at noon and 4:00pm. Final eliminations are scheduled for 11:00am, Sunday, April 9.
