CHANDLER, Ariz. (Jan. 28, 2005) -- Four days after clocking the fastest pass of his career (326.89 mph) in preseason testing at Las Vegas, Tommy Johnson Jr. and Don Prudhomme's Skoal RacingSM Funny Car continued preparing for the 2005 NHRA season Friday, testing their Chevy flopper at Firebird International Raceway near Phoenix.

Fighting a tricky race track, Johnson's Monte Carlo battled traction issues on Friday as did most cars testing at the Arizona drag strip. The team plans on using the data acquired on Friday's three passes to adjust the tune-up for the rest of the weekend.

"The tricky track conditions threw us for a curve," Johnson said. "We struggled with the track on Friday, and after looking at the data, we have a game plan for Saturday. It's actually kind of nice because it gives us a head start on tuning the tricky tracks we'll face later this year."

Johnson and the Skoal Racing team will pick up Saturday morning as they'll continue to make runs and gather data as they look towards a strong performance in NHRA competition this season.
