Topeka, Kan. (Sept. 30): As teams prepare for Sunday's final eliminations at the Advance Auto Parts Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka, Tony Schumacher will start his U.S. Army dragster from the No. 2 qualifying position as he battles with Gary Scelzi for the Winston Championship points lead.

Schumacher started the second day of qualifying with a 4.778 second pass at 290.51 mph and remained in the No.4 spot.

"We've got more left," said Schumacher, "Dan's (Olson - crew chief) got a handle on everything and we'll take a shot at the No. 1 spot."

Schumacher's final blast down the track put him within .008 seconds of the No. 1 qualifying position. He ran an identical e.t. as Doug Kalitta with a 4.612 second run, but his 313.73 mph gave him the No. 2 spot over Kalitta.

'I'm anxious for raceday," said Schumacher, "we've had a good weekend so far and we're ready to go four rounds tomorrow."

"We are ready to put this Army dragster back on top in the points race."

Final eliminations are scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.
