The 2000 NHRA Winston Drag Racing season is five races away from being complete and put into the record books. With five races remaining that gives Team Jeg's five more opportunities to win races.
NHRA Pro Stock points leader Jeg Coughlin, Jr. has visited the winner's circle eight times and has two runner-up finishes so far this season. He is one of only six drivers who have qualified at every race during the '00 NHRA season. In addition, he won the Holley Dominator Duel.
The familiar yellow and black Oldsmobile Cutlass has been a threat to win at each event. Jeg has 1592 points and leads his closest competitor by 363 points. The eighteen round lead proves that Jeg Coughlin, Jr. is the man to beat in NHRA most competitive professional class. A total of 20 rounds of competition remain this season.
"I have to admit, the championship has been on my mind lately, but we have five races remaining and that's five opportunities to win races," commented Jeg. "Our goal is no different now then what it has been all year, stay focused and limit our mistakes."
Troy Coughlin is also one of the six drivers who has qualified at each race this season. He is currently tied for the No. 5 spot and has 926 points. Troy is 186 points from taking over the No. 4 position.
"Our program is stronger and more mature then we were a year ago," said Troy. "The knowledge and experience that we have gained over the last 12 month has proved to be invaluable."
Troy was the winner of the prestigious Winston Showdown and was the runner-up of the Holley Dominator Duel in Pro Stock. He has two runner-up finishes so far this season and his first professional national event victory can happen at anytime.
"We have learned a lot about what the car I driver likes and doesn't like lately," explained Troy. "We want to visit the winner's circle before the end of the year and with five races left we have five chances. Our program is up to the challenge!"
