INDIANAPOLIS (September 5, 2004) The field is set for the 50th annual Mac Tools U. S. Nationals and Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel), John Force (Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Chip Ellis (Pro Stock Bike) are the leaders in their prospective classes.

In Funny Car John Force kept his number one qualifying position from his pass on Saturday night. Even though he lost in the Skoal Shootout his eyes are placed on Monday.

"The focus is now to win the championship and the race," said Force after getting his fourth top position of the year. "Are guys aren't going to party that Densham won today, we are all going to work on the cars tonight and get ready for Monday."

In Top Fuel, Doug Kalitta also stayed in the top spot with his run from the first session on Friday with his pass of 4.544 seconds at 320.51mph.

"That was a real nice run on Friday, a lot of guys had good runs but we just came out here and did it," said Kalitta. "I think in the morning it will be tricky out there. It will be an interesting race but there is no other place on the planet than I would win than here."

In Pro Stock, point's leader Greg Anderson logged his thirteenth top qualifying position with a pass of 6.794 seconds at 202.27mph.

"I need to have a good day to win my 13th race of the year and it is going to be a heck of a challenge to win," said Anderson. "It is going to be a heck of challenge with so many good cars going down the track. To win lucky number 13 we are really going to have to earn it."

In Pro Stock Bike, first time NHRA competitor Chip Ellis stayed in the top qualifying position.

Gary Densham was able to beat his boss, John Force, in the final round of the Skoal Funny Car Showdown. Densham ran a 4.893 second pass at 316.08mph to Force's losing 5.083 seconds at 270.05mph trip down the quarter-mile.

"It was a great win to beat John but he fired me after the race," joked Densham after the event. "Anything you do at Indy is special especially for all the hard work you do all year long to qualify for this race. This is such a thrill for me and the entire team."

Eliminations for the 50th annual Mac Tools U. S. Nationals will start Monday at 11:00 A. M.
