Atlanta, Ga. (Pre-race) - The Texas Harley-Davidson Pro Stock Truck Team, and driver Don Smith stayed an extra day in Richmond after the Moto1.net Nationals to take advantage of the open test day, and do some work on their truck. The results of their testing may make a big difference this weekend at the 20th Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals in Atlanta, Ga.

"We have nothing to loose," said Smith. "Right now we have the new truck blues. Nothing we have tried seems to work, so we decide to just go ahead and change everything.

"We will be teamed with Jerry Haas, and his new driver Steven Farr, for the rest of the year. On Monday we changed the truck so it would be the same as Steve's (Farr). Having the trucks the same will help with the exchange of information between the two teams. As tight as this field is you can't throw any runs away. With two teams working together theoretically you have eight runs instead of four to pull data from. The exchange of data between two-truck teams is really paying off for guys like the Coughlins and Panella. We are hoping that it will benefit us as well.

"On Monday we changed about everything on the truck: clutch, motor, suspension, everything but the transmission and the driver.

"The first thing we changed was the clutch. We went to a new clutch set-up in an effort to try and get a smoother transition when we change from one gear to another. Once we started testing with the new clutch, then we also changed some things in the suspension and set up, all working towards making the truck run smooth down track.

"I think this weekend in Atlanta we will start to see all our hard work begin to pay off. We have really made a lot of headway with the truck since Houston. It keeps getting better but it was not where we wanted it to be in Richmond. My Crew Chief Kevin Hill and I feel very good about Atlanta. I am looking forward to getting there and getting back in the truck and giving it another shot. I believe we have some thing for Atlanta.

Qualifying at the 20th Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals begins on Friday May 5 and Saturday May 6. Eliminations will take place Sunday May 7 at 11:00 AM EST.
