Atlanta, Ga. (May 6) - Don Smith and the Texas Harley-Davidson team arrived in Atlanta for the running of the 20th Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals in a rebuilding mode.

The team stayed in Richmond an extra day to test and tune on their trucks combination. Although, the test and tune session was successful, it was still not enough to place Smiths Chevy S-10 in the field. In the third session of qualifying Smith ran a 7.626 / 177.14 mph, which would place him 18th and on the outside looking in.

"We changed just about everything between Richmond and Atlanta," said Kevin Hill, crew chief on the Texas Harley-Davidson truck. "We are messing with something new. We changed the whole clutch combination, so we are still working at it. We are getting there, but we still have a way to go. It will come."

"We are improving but not as quickly as we would like," said Smith. "We are beating on the door, but we are not quite there. We improved with every round, but it still was not enough. We are going to try and do some testing before the next race. Hopefully we will be able to have the truck sorted out by the time we get to Chicago.

"We are disappointed but we are not going to give up. With the help we are getting from Jerry Haas, I believe that this truck is going to come round. We will come out swinging in Chicago.

The next stop on the Pro Stock Truck schedule is the Third Annual Prestone Route 66 Nationals in Chicago, IL, June 1-4.
