Park Ridge, IL (February 21): After starting the season with a solid runner-up finish at the Winternationals, Tony Schumacher and the Exide Batteries race team head to Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix for the CSK Nationals, where a year ago they shocked the drag racing world with their historic 330-mph blast.

"It is amazing how many times last year I was asked about the 330 run," said Schumacher, "I guess most people relate better to mph versus et's."

Schumacher and crew chief, Dan Olson, return to the site where they made history to show the horsepower that helped their Exide Batteries team win the 1999 NHRA Winston Championship. "We tested here last month and were pleased with what we learned," said Schumacher, "now we have to put it all together for race day."

"Our strategy this year will be the same that won us the championship last year. Race one round at a time and don't worry about the points."

Schumacher is currently second in points behind two-time champion (1997, 1998), Gary Scelzi. Schumacher knows the Team Winston driver is not happy that Schumacher is carrying the number one on his car that Scelzi had held for the two previous years.

"We are looking forward to racing (Gary) Scelzi again," Schumacher added referring back to his final-round loss to him at the Winternationals.

"I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of each other this year and I plan on showing him who the defending champion is," Schumacher said with a wink.

Qualify for the Checker Schuck's Kragen Nationals is scheduled for Friday, February 25 and Saturday, February 26. Final eliminations are scheduled for Sunday, February 27.
