Branch looking to stay hot in Memphis

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Just two weeks after a dominating win in Houston, defending three-time Division 4 Top Alcohol Funny Car Champion Tate Branch and the Bar's Leaks/ Branch-Etterman Racing team will be looking to stay hot at this weekend's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Memphis Motorsports Park. Branch is quick to cite despite being the most recent winner, this weekend will be a new slugfest.

Branch, from Artesia, N.M., used a barrage of consistent 5.50's and low 5.60's in Houston to take the win. The team hopes to keep up that torrid pace this weekend.

"We ran very well and consistent in Houston," said Branch. "Any time you can do that, you put yourself in a position to win. A lot of that is the team we have. I have a great partner in George & Jane Etterman, they support us 110%. All the great folks at Bar's Leaks are right there for anything we need as well. When you put that with the great crew we have lead by Dave Scheelk, we have the tools to win. We learned some new things in Houston, and hopefully we can apply them again here in Memphis. Needless to say, after the .50's in Houston, we're pretty excited about this weekend."

The team also hopes to use another strong divisional showing to bolster their run for national points. The team will make their national event debut in three weeks at the O'Reilly Spring Nationals in Houston.

"We plan on running a full schedule this year, so if we can pick up another divisional win, we'll be looking good going into the national event schedule," stated Branch. "We were going to go to Gainesville, but we just got our new trailer from Haulmark, so we're going to replace that race with Atlanta. We're just going to take it one race at a time and see how it goes from there."

Qualifying starts on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
