CONCORD, N.C., April 21, 2013—Bob Tasca earned his 100th-career Funny Car round win at the Dollar General NHRA 4-Wide Nationals on Sunday at zMAX Dragway.
Tasca smoked the tires to a 6.399 at 110.94 in round two, as opponents Matt Hagan and Blake Alexander advanced. In the special format the NHRA Mello Yello Series competes with once a year at the four-lane track near Charlotte, drivers qualify and then compete four cars at a time.
The career milestone gives the team, many of whom have been with Tasca since his rookie year, momentum for next week’s O’Reilly Auto Parts SpringNationals in Houston.
“It was a really exciting first-round win for our team, to earn our 100th round win with Motorcraft and Quick Lane,” said Tasca, a sixth-year driver from Rhode Island. “We weren’t so excited in the second round. We weren’t expecting the car to do what it did. We really didn’t change a whole lot. We were hoping to go out there and run a 4.12 and give ourselves a shot to get into the final round, but it wasn’t what the racing gods had in store.
“We made a lot of progress with this Motorcraft/Quick Lane car coming out of Las Vegas and we’re at the beginning of three in a row. We want to gain some points. We picked up some points on some people ahead of us, and put a few on some people behind us, but that’s not enough. You’ve got to keep going rounds and that’s what we’ll be focused on doing in Houston.
“One-hundred wins, it’s kind of great to get that monkey off my back. It kind of crept up on me. The only thing I’m hoping for is that the next 100 come a whole lot quicker.”
