DIXON AIMS FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN -- After a week off, there's little doubt that Larry Dixon will be looking to pick up right where he left off when the NHRA Full Throttle Series returns to the track at Gateway International. The Al-Anabi Racing driver won each of the last two races in dominating fashion, not only winning eight consecutive elimination races, but also leading five of the eight qualifying sessions. Combined with a season-opening win at Pomona, Dixon has now won three of the six races run in 2010 and has taken a one-point lead in the championship hunt.
LAST YEAR AT GATEWAY --Toyota-sponsored drivers were victorious in both the Top Fuel and Funny Car at Gateway in 2009. Antron Brown came from the seventh qualifying position to eventually defeat Brandon Bernstein in the finals. Shawn Langdon advanced to the semi-finals before falling to Brown, while Morgan Lucas was eliminated in the second round and Larry Dixon lost in round one. In Funny Car, Del Worsham took home top honors by defeating Ron Capps in the final. Cruz Pedregon advanced to the semi-finals, where he eventually lost to Capps. Brown and Worsham are the only two of the six Toyota-sponsored drivers to have won at Gateway. Brown's sole victory at the track was last season, while Worsham also was victorious at the St. Louis-area track in 2003.
TOYOTA DRIVERS EYEING COUNTDOWN -- Five of the six Toyota-sponsored drivers are currently on pace to qualify for the NHRA's Countdown to One playoffs. Larry Dixon has climbed into the lead in Top Fuel, with Antron Brown in fourth, Shawn Langdon in sixth and Morgan Lucas in seventh. Lucas has 109-point cushion over 11th-place. In Funny Cars, Del Worsham has climbed into the seventh position, with a 67-point advantage over 11th. Cruz Pedregon currently sits 12th, 57 points out of the 10th and final 'Countdown' qualifying position.
