Gann Looking for Strong Weekend in Madison
GIR could be the Gateway to the Winner's Circle
NHRA Full Throttle Series Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Shawn Gann kicked off the 2009 season with a semi-finals appearance at the Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. Although he lost the round to eventual event winner Hector Arana by a mere .0016 second, it was the boost the Stoneville, N.C., native to get his season on track.
In Houston, Gann took his RumBum Racing Buell down the track with a blistering 6.993 ET against defending PSM champ Eddie Krawiec in the opening round of eliminations. Unfortunately, the four-time National event winner left the line .003 seconds too early and was disqualified. Atlanta saw Gann take the opening round against Junior Pippin, but fall to Andrew Hines in the quarterfinals with engine issues.
Gann looks to put Houston and Atlanta behind him and regain his swagger from the Gatornationals this weekend at the O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals Presented by Castrol at Gateway International Raceway outside St. Louis. With the support of his new sponsor, RumBum, as well as XTreme Rebellion sports gear, Gann feels like his return to the Winner's Circle is coming soon.
"Man, it's been so long since we hoisted that Wally," Gann said, "but with the support we have from our great fans as well as RumBum and XTreme Rebellion, we know it's close.
"We barely lost to Hector in Gainesville and if I hadn't red-lighted in Houston, I'd have taken that round because Eddie blew up and who knows what would have happened then. We're close. We're back on our game, I just feel it."
This is the third event for Gann flying the RumBum colors on his Buell and he said he's excited to represent them in the NHRA Full Throttle Series. "RumBum has sponsored sports cars in the Skip Barber Mazdaspeed Challenge and in the Rolex 24 at Daytona and I'm honored that they're giving me the kind of support they have," he said. "Race fans can check them out at RumBum.com and follow us throughout the year there."
Gann takes to the track Friday at 2:30 p.m. CDT for the first PSM qualifying session and fans can see the action in person by purchasing tickets at TicketMaster.com or calling 866-35-SPEED. The O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals Presented by Castrol can be seen on ESPN2 with qualifying airing Saturday at 5 p.m. CDT and eliminations shown at 6 p.m. CDT Sunday. Eliminations will re-air Wednesday morning on ESPN2 at 2 a.m. CDT.
