ANTRON BROWN QUALIFIES 16TH AT ST. LOUIS

MADISON, Ill. (April 30, 2010) - Antron Brown drove his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the No. 16 qualifying position Saturday afternoon at Gateway International Raceway.

After making just one qualifying attempt on Friday due to severe storms, the defending event winner entered the second day of qualifying for the 14th annual AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals in the provisional No. 12 position. On Saturday's first qualifying lap, the Matco Tools/U.S. Army rail overpowered the track and slowed to a run of 4.688 seconds at 206.20. That dropped Brown to 13th in the 16-car order. Brown's bright blue dragster again lost traction on its final qualifying lap slowing to a pass of 9.605 at 77.27. That placed him in the No. 16 position. It is the first time in his Top Fuel career that he has qualified 16th.

"We've struggled this weekend, no doubt," Brown said. "We've been fighting some gremlins in our new race car all weekend long, but our DSR Matco Tools team is hard at work getting things all straight with our Matco dragster so we can come out on Sunday and put up a good fight against Cory Mac (McClenathan) and that FRAM team."

Brown will face off against No. 1 qualifier and DSR teammate Cory McClenathan in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations at 11 a.m. (CT) on Sunday at Gateway. Making his 199th career race day start, Brown is 8-3 in his career against the 33-time Top Fuel winner. They have yet to meet this season.
