ANTRON BROWN FINISHES 12TH FRIDAY IN RAIN-SHORTENED DAY AT ST. LOUIS

MADISON, Ill. (April 30, 2010) - Antron Brown, a 24-time NHRA winner, drove to the provisional No. 12 qualifying position Friday afternoon at Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis as just one of two scheduled qualifying sessions was completed due to strong storms.

Brown, who enters the seventh race on the 2010 NHRA schedule ranked fourth in the Top Fuel standings with three final-round appearances this season, made just one attempt on the opening day of qualifying for the 14th annual AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals. Brown's Matco Tools/U.S. Army rail shook the tires on Friday's opening qualifying effort as the defending event champion coasted to a lap of 7.157 seconds at 88.55 mph. Friday's second session was canceled due to storms in the area. Brown has two poles this season, including the last race in Las Vegas on April 17.

"We just shook the tires really hard on that run," Brown said." We just didn't have enough beans in the car and it was weak. We'll miss not getting that second run, but we're in the top 12 and that's all that matters. We only qualified seventh here last year and still won the race and we have a lot of confidence in our Matco Tools team."

Professional nitro qualifying will continue on Saturday with qualifying sessions scheduled for 12:30 and 3 p.m. (CT) at Gateway International Raceway. Top Fuel will run first followed by Funny Car. Brown qualified seventh (3.906-seconds) at the St. Louis race last year en route to earning his second win of the 2009 NHRA season (def. Brandon Bernstein).
