PRO STOCK TRUCK -- CHEVY S-10

JOHN LINGENFELTER, SUMMIT RACING EQUIPMENT CHEVY S-10, defeated Todd Patterson in the Pro Stock Truck final today, 7.805/174.24 to 7.819/171.78. This was Lingenfelter's first win of the season, the fifth in a row for a Chevy S-10 (six races are now complete of the 12-race series). This is Lingenfelter's third final round appearance of the year. Reaction times were close, .469 for Lingenfelter, .467 for Patterson.

LINGENFELTER: IT LOOKED LIKE LARRY KOPP WAS GOING TO RUN AWAY WITH THIS THING TWO TO THREE RACES AGO: "There are a lot of (good) racers. All of us racers felt that we could be competitive with him. They (Kopp and his team) did a really good job and had their combination right early, while the rest of us struggled a little. There's nobody out there who's a quitter. All the guys are competitors, we all felt that we could get them. We're getting better at it. As each race goes on, we get more experience and more time on the equipment. We only got our Chevy S-10 truck two days before the first race and we've been playing catch-up since."

DID YOU HAVE ANY KIND OF EDGE GOING INTO THE FINAL? "No. It was pretty close. We had just a slightly quicker truck, not by much. We won by a few feet (three to be approximate), it was close. The competition level is really escalating race to race. Even at the last race, a month ago, the competition was a lot closer. Performance-wise there are probably eight trucks that could hve won the race."

IS PRO STOCK TRUCK A SPECTATOR FAVORITE OR WILL IT BE?  "The people we see
all love it.  They always want to make sure that they go to a race that has
the trucks racing there.  Almost everybody.  The average people really
relate to the Chevy S-10.  It's amazing how many peple say they relate to
their S-10 puickup.  A lot of young kids are driving their S-10s, and a lot
of girls.  It's amazing how many women come by to talk about their S-10s."

ON THE COMPETITION AMONG MANUFACTURERS: "It would make it better for us if Ford could get more involved. The competition between the Dodge and Chevy trucks is getting closer. Chrysler is gaining at a rapid rate, they're closing in a hundredth every race."
