NHRA's Team Kalitta Takes Pride in Clean Runs
SONOMA, Calif., (July 28, 2006) -- Kalitta Motorsports team owner and drag racing legend Connie "the Bounty Hunter" Kalitta has been an iconic figure in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series for almost half of a century. In that time, Connie has amassed an astounding 58 NHRA national event victories as a driver, team owner, and crew chief. In addition to being known for making tremendous amounts of horsepower in his nitromethane-fueled quarter-mile race cars, Connie and his teams throughout the years continue to raise the bar of excellence as it pertains to racing consistently and clean.
As of today, the Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster driven by Doug Kalitta, the StriVectin-SD Top Fuel dragster driven by Dave Grubnic, the KB Racing Top Fuel dragster driven by Hillary Will, and the Scott Kalitta-driven Nitro Funny Car have made a combined 316 oildown-free laps out of a possible 319 laps in 2006. Doug's Mac Tools team, led by crew chief Rahn Tobler, leads the Team Kalitta collective with 91 straight laps without an oildown penalty or fine.
This weekend, July 28-30, the Kalitta Motorsports team is competing in Sonoma, Calif., at the 19th annual Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon Raceway. One of the biggest factors that Connie contributes to his teams' recent years of clean running is Red Line Oil. Red Line Synthetic Oil Corporation, based in Benicia, Calif., joined forces with Kalitta Motorsports in 2001. Ever since that time, Red Line Oil has supplied racing motor oil and other lubricants for all Team Kalitta race cars and has served as an associate sponsor on each as well in that time.
"There's no doubt Red Line has been a big factor in our success," Connie said. "They make a great product that we rely on week in and week out. Nitro cars are extremely volatile and hard to tame, so not having to worry about our motor oil is a huge advantage."
Red Line Oil is serving as the primary sponsor for this weekend's event in Sonoma on Scott's nitro-fueled Funny Car entry. Scott's 7,000 horsepower flopper has made 66 consecutive oildown-free runs in 2006. In the past three years, Scott's entries in both the Top Fuel class and in the Funny Car class have been the most consistently clean in the NHRA with an amazing 334 consecutive oil-free runs.
