Toliver, ROCKSTAR Funny Car Crew Work Hard on Eliminating Gremlins

Jerry Toliver and the crew of his ROCKSTAR Energy Drink Toyota Solara Funny have been exterminating gremlins lately, and they hope they've eradicated all of them.

"We finally solved a problem that troubled us at Seattle (July 22) and at
Infineon Raceway," Toliver said Sunday, but it was one day too late for him to
run well enough to qualify for Sunday's FRAM Autolite Nationals. "We had a
systems failure and the guys took apart our ignition box, looking for the
gremlin that affected our qualifying at Seattle and Sonoma.
"Dale (Armstrong, crew chief) and the crew cut apart everything in the MSD
box and finally traced it to a piece of rubber that was used as insulation.
It turned out there was carbon in the rubber and it was enough to conduct four
volts of electricity. That was enough to start the timers that set off the
engine retarders and slowed us down."
Other than that, Toliver said he ran the fifth-quickest elapsed time in
Saturday's first qualifying session and was No. 11 in the final session, "but it
was too late because we missed the important Friday night session and there
was no way we could recover."
Toliver's best qualifying time was 5.068 seconds at 298.60 mph, putting him
17th, one place away from the starting berth.

"We will run well when we get rid of all the gremlins," continued Toliver. "All our guys are working hard and are dedicated. Sooner or later, we'll get through this."

This event ended a string of six successive races.
