A Resilient Line Qualifies Fifth in Sonoma

After just missing the set-up in Friday's evening session at Infineon Raceway, Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Jason Line came into the second day of qualifying at the Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals in Sonoma, CA determined to improve upon his 12th place standing. Although the temperatures at Infineon Raceway were significantly higher than they had been the day before, Line was nevertheless able to achieve his goal, posting the second-quickest time of the early session at 6.569-seconds with a top speed of 209.88 mph to move up seven spots, claiming the fifth spot on Sunday's final eliminations ladder.

He then completed his qualifying effort on the Sonoma quarter-mile in similar fashion, recording the second-quickest time in the heat, putting himself in a good position to repeat his winning performance from a year ago at this race.

"Today was certainly better than yesterday," said Line. "Our run this morning was pretty decent, and the second one had the potential to be faster, showing us some things that we can hopefully use tomorrow. Although we still have a ways to go, I'm not completely unhappy with our performance. Infineon Raceway has historically been a good track for us, so I'm confident we'll get our act together for tomorrow. Our Summit Racing Pontiac is good enough that we could do some damage, including defending our win from last year. We just have to go out there and make it happen."
