Angelle stays fast, slots 2nd for Sonoma eliminations.

Angelle Savoie and the Star Racing Suzuki continued their high-speed assault on Infineon Raceway during the second day of qualifying for the Fram-Autolite Nationals. In the morning session, she blasted down the Sonoma quarter-mile in 7.107-seconds with a top speed of 186.64 mph. Although this temporarily put Angelle atop the Pro Stock Motorcycle field, her efforts placed he in the second position at the conclusion of qualifying, setting the stage for a first round match up with No. 15 qualifier Greg Underdahl.

"After making a good pass on Saturday morning, we made some adjustments to our Star Racing Suzuki for the afternoon session to not only improve, but get ready for Sunday's eliminations. Unfortunately, the starting line was a little better than we thought it would be, which hurt us a little on the last run.

"Naturally, we're never happy with qualifying second, but considering what happened to Warren Johnson (the defending Pro Stock Car champion, whose unexpected DNQ snapped a string of 303 races in which he had successfully qualified), we'll take it and move forward. I feel sorry for Warren, and at the same time feel blessed to be in the show. Besides, we're only starting from the No. 2 position - it's where we end up on Sunday night that's important.

"I can't say enough about the fans here in Sonoma. They are amazing. This is the bikes' first visit to Infineon Raceway, and they have made us feel so welcome. I did a long, smoky burnout before my last qualifying run, and the crowd loved it. Hopefully tomorrow, we'll get to show them how the Star Racing team celebrates in the winner's circle."
