Langdon hopes his love for Bristol pays dividends
There are few tracks where Shawn Langdon feels more at home than Bristol Dragway, and the driver of the Lucas Oil/Speedco Top Fuel dragster hopes that down home feeling he's sure to enjoy at this weekend's NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals jump starts his season.
"Bristol is my favorite track," Langdon said. "I'm real excited to be going back there. We generally run pretty decent there and we've got a true night run Friday, which will be a lot of fun for everyone."
Langdon, who finished runner-up at the Ultimate 64 Shootout bracket race last weekend in his Lucas Oil Super Comp dragster, is trying to rebound from a first-round loss to teammate Morgan Lucas suffered at the NHRA SuperNationals.
"Hopefully we can turn things around," Langdon said. "We've been sliding in the points a little and we've got to put a stop to that so we can make up some ground."
The third-year driver sits ninth in the Full Throttle Series Top Fuel standings, 10 points behind Lucas for eighth.
Langdon's weekend is going to be packed with activities outside the car, including a golf tournament on Thursday with representatives from Speedco.
"The Speedco people have been to the races a couple of times," Langdon said. "But this is the first opportunity to get to know them in a more relaxed atmosphere."
The atmosphere around the pits at Bristol is a more like a festival than an everyday drag race, and Langdon likes the laidback style.
"Bruton Smith's tracks are always fun to race at," Langdon said. "They really treat the fans right and makes us want to put on a better show for them."
