Shane Gray means to show proof of power on Sunday in Phoenix
Gray Motorsports crew diligently chipped away at getting the power to the ground and came back in the final session with a strong 6.591 at 210.14.

Pro Stock competitor Shane Gray certainly cannot deny that he has power beneath the hood of his eye-catching green and white Charter Communications Chevrolet Camaro, and the Gray Motorsports driver is eager to prove it on raceday at the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park near Phoenix. Gray qualified his quick Camaro in the No. 5 spot and will race Greg Stanfield in the first round of eliminations on Sunday.
Gray's quickest qualifying pass was his first launch in the dry desert air. On Friday, the second-generation driver who resides in Denver, N.C., clicked off a swift 6.551 at 211.06 mph, and although the second and third qualifying runs left much to be desired, his Gray Motorsports crew diligently chipped away at getting the power to the ground and came back in the final session with a strong 6.591 at 210.14.
Gray, a regular top-half qualifier in recent times, will be seeking his first win in Phoenix on raceday, and he hopes to have to challenge a friendly rival in the final round; his Gray Motorsports teammate Dave Connolly is qualified on the opposite side of the ladder. Both drivers are hoping for the first of what they hope will be many all-Gray Motorsports finals.
"I always say that you don't know what tomorrow brings, but our plan is to have two Gray Motorsports Chevrolet Camaros in the final round, that's for darn sure," said Gray. "Our engines are real good; we've got a lot of power. We haven't shown quite what we wanted to here yet this weekend, but I feel confident going into Sunday. I can't think of any reason why I shouldn't."
