Whisnant Out Of Show in Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance / Snap-On Tools Pro Stock Chevrolet Cavalier, came to the 16th annual Carquest Auto Parts NHRA Nationals with high expectations of being in the show come Sunday morning. Whisnant who qualified Number 1 at this race last year had a weekend of highs and extreme lows.

The RW Performance team came off the trailer quick, and at the close of qualifying Friday night had high hopes of making the Pro Stock field.

Saturday morning Whisnant started the day in the 12th position and ran his best time of the weekend a 6.839 / 202.30 mph, in the morning session. However, his time would not be good enough to keep him in the field. Whisnant would finish the day 18th and out of tomorrow's race.

"We came close, but close is not good enough," said Whisnant of Stockbridge, Ga. "We didn't make the race, but we are encouraged with the way we ran this weekend. We are still struggling, but we seem to be gaining on it. All we can do now is go the Sears Point and try again."

The next race on the 2003 POWERade NHRA Drag Racing schedule will be the 16th annual Fram-Autolite NHRA Nationals August 1-3 in Sonoma, Calif.
