SEATTLE, Wash. -- Greg Anderson, driver of the Vegas General Construction Pontiac Grand Am, will arrive at the 16th annual Carquest Auto Parts NHRA Nationals in Seattle Wash. leading the Pro Stock points. Anderson claims that the points chase is not a motivating factor in the performance of his team this year.
"Hey if it all ended tomorrow it has been one hell of a ride," said Anderson of Charlotte, NC. "So far this season has been a dream come true for me, but we have worked hard to be living this dream. Our performance to date has been exceptional, but I am no fool, I know that all this can end tomorrow.
"Right now, there are a bunch of guys doing everything in their power to stop me. We have been fortunate to be able to stay in pace with Kurt (Johnson), and Warren (Johnson) is within striking distance. Last year Jeggie (Coughlin) made a late season charged, so he is always a threat. Never count out Yates, Krisher, Edwards, or for that matter any of the guys in the top fifteen. For someone who has maintained all along that we are not counting points, I sure do know a lot about who is out to get me.
"The points race aside, our goal for the remainder of the season is to win some more races and make gains at tracks were we feel we were lacking last season. To make gains in the motor shop, and be a good as we can be. That is, and has always been, our goal for the 2003 season. So far, that goal has been working out in our favor.
"It can be a little intimidating being the guy that everyone has in their cross-hairs, but it also the biggest compliment that can be given to this Vegas General Construction team. I keep saying it, but our performance is a result of the dedication and commitment of my team. I have the best team on the parking lot, and I would not be here without them. Rob, Jeff, Jason, Brad, Chris, and all the guys back at the shop they deserve the credit. It is all about them, I am just the guy who drives the car."
Qualifying at the 16th annual Carquest Auto Parts NHRA Nationals in Seattle, Wash. will begin on Friday July 25 and continue on Saturday July 26. Eliminations will take place on Sunday July 27 at 11:00 AM PST.
