Anderson upset by Panella

KENT, Wash. (July 22, 2007) -- Greg Anderson, who drives the KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment Pontiac GTO, was surprised by Bob Panella, Jr. in the quarterfinals of the 20th running of NHRA Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals.

In the opening round, Anderson set the bar high running a Pacific Raceway track record elapsed time, 6.654 seconds and a track record speed, 207.50 mph, easily defeating Jeg Coughlin.

Against Panella in round two, Anderson, who won at Pacific Raceway in 2003 (over Larry Morgan) and 2004 (over Dave Connolly), tried to overcome a four hundredths advantage by Panella at the starting line. At the top end of the track, Anderson failed to catch the former Pro Stock Truck champion and Panella crossed the finish line first.

Anderson covered the quarter-mile track in 6.708 seconds. Panella recorded an elapsed time of 6.690 seconds.

"We're having a lot of inconsistencies with our car right now," said Anderson, following the disappointing loss in the second round. "Both the driver and the car did it job in the first round. In the second time out, everything went south and we didn't rise to the opportunity. We need to work on fixing that problem so that we are ready when we get to the meat of the Countdown. We've got a lot of work to do over the next three races so that we are ready when we get to Indy."

In the Countdown to the Championship, Anderson will continue to lead the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock point standings with three races left in the first segment.
