Connolly Runs Career Best Time, Takes No. 1 Spot at Seattle

SEATTLE -- Dave Connolly set the Pacific Raceways Pro Stock track record last year en route to a race victory and he improved it twice Friday as qualifying began for Sunday's Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals.

Cold weather and clouds helped create ideal conditions and crew chief Tommy Utt's tune-up sent the Charter Communications/LifeLock Chevy Cobalt down the quarter-mile in 6.573 seconds at 209.49 mph, putting Connolly into the provisional No. 1 spot going into Saturday's final two qualifying runs.

"I set the track record here last year on my last pass and reset it in Q1 (qualifying run 1) and again in Q2," he said. "The Seattle track has been excellent to us."

Connolly, who had a disappointing outing at Denver last weekend, said the crew "looked over everything during the week and everything today was 180-degrees different from last week."

He took the top spot with a 6.584 at 209.33 mph first run and saved the quickest time for the evening attempt.

"It feels good but we need to hold onto that spot tomorrow," he added.
