INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 18, 2007) -- Cruz Pedregon, the 1992 NHRA Nitro Funny Car Champion and his Advance Auto Parts Funny Car Team are heading to Pacific Raceways in Kent, Wash. (near Seattle) for the NHRA Nationals, July 20-22, 2007, the 14th of 23 powerhouse events of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. This event marks the fifth race in the string of six consecutive race weekends for the professional teams and the 2nd race in the traditional Western Swing of races which includes Denver, Colo., Seattle, Wash., and Sonoma, Calif.

Pedregon, despite narrowly missing the field in Denver last weekend, remains in the No. 8 position in the NHRA POWERade Countdown to the Championship rankings. He is optimistic about his chances to reach the Winner's Circle and continue his climb up the standings.

"I love racing in Seattle," said Pedregon. "Our Advance Auto Parts Funny Car will be breathing easier at sea level which will mean fast times and a great show for all the drag racing fans in the Pacific Northwest. We had a bump in the road last weekend and we were fortunate it didn't hurt us too bad in points."

With only three races remaining in the Countdown to the Championship's regular season, Pedregon knows the importance of obtaining a top qualifying spot and going rounds on Sunday.

"We will be fighting hard to get to the Winner's Circle in Seattle," Pedregon stated. "We need to continue to perform consistently and go rounds to move up. I am confident in our team- we have a great group of guys preparing the car and great sponsors behind us all the way."
