O'Bannon reaches semifinals in Montana

ACTON, Mont. - Rookie NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Sean O'Bannon and the Tequila Patron/Forest River RV's backed team reached the semifinals of this past weekend's Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Yellowstone Dragway in Acton, Mont. O'Bannon reached the final of this event last season while driving a Top Alcohol Dragster.

O'Bannon, 28, from Fontana, Calif., qualified the Sam Shockley tuned Dodge Charger seventh in the field with a 5.982 second elapsed time at 234.61 mph at the high-altitude track. In round one, he took out Clint Thompson with a 6.033 at 236.63 mph before matching up with defending Div. 6 Champion Brian Hough in the semifinals. Hough took the win in a close match-up with a 5.974 at 243.50 mph to O'Bannon's right-there 5.989 at 242.36 mph.

"Obviously we would have liked to get the win," said O'Bannon. "But the weekend was a step back in the right direction, so we're happy with that. It was pretty dark at night there and a tricky track to get down. This is our first year in the Funny Car class, so we're still learning. Our team Crew Chiefs, Sam Shockley and Randy Anderson feel like they learned some things that will help us get to the next level. We'll do some testing over the next two weeks and hit it hard in Bakersfield."

The next event for the Tequila Patron/Forest River RV's team will be Sept. 7-9, in Bakersfield, Calif., for the Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event there.
