RAIN WASHES OUT OPENING DAY OF SOUTHEAST DIVISION SUMMIT FINALS

COMMERCE, Ga. -- The top bracket racers from across the NHRA Southeast division converged on Atlanta Dragway this weekend to compete for individual and team honors in the NHRA Summit Racing Series Southeast Division Finals. However, rain forced the cancellation of the opening day of racing. Racing will resume as scheduled on Friday and conclude with eliminations on Saturday.

Friday's action will begin at 9 a.m. and include time trials for competitors as well as the Race of Champions and a Gambler's Race. The Race of Champions, a race within a race where the top points earning drivers from each class square off in head-to-head competition, begins at 5 p.m. Race of Champions racers in four categories, Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Pro Bike, will vie for a share of the purse worth nearly, $5,000.

Competitors in Sunday's eliminations will compete for cash awards of $15,700. The winners in each category will advance to compete against winners from NHRA's other six divisions at the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., in November. They will each receive $3,500 for advancing to the Finals and the winner in each class will receive an additional $5,000.
