CENTER LINE, Mich., Jan. 25, 2000 - After being sidelined since last April from injuries suffered in a non-race-related incident at his southern California home, Team Mopar NHRA Pro Stock driver Scott Geoffrion, 34, has been given doctor's clearance to resume his racing career at the Feb. 3-6 NHRA AutoZone Winternationals in Pomona, Calif.

"I can't tell you what a thrill it was when the doctor gave me permission to start driving a race car again," Geoffrion, winner of nine career NHRA Pro Stock events, said. "Months of intense physical therapy and a new diet have given me a new lease on life - in fact, I'm in better shape now than I was before the accident."

Lou Patane, Vice President, Motorsports Operations and Mopar Performance Parts, DaimlerChrysler, is delighted that Geoffrion will return to the seat of his Team Mopar Dodge Avenger. "We've been very concerned with Scott's condition since the accident," Patane said. "Scott went through a rough time and needed time to recover, and we were glad to give it to him - we wouldn't risk aggravating the injuries by him getting behind the wheel of his race car too soon after the accident."

Geoffrion started driving in the Pro Stock division part-time in 1987 and got his first full-time ride in 1991, where he finished fourth. Geoffrion and his teammate, three-time Pro Stock Champion Darrell Alderman, begin their second season driving for the David Nickens team.
