Tony, who is the event's reigning champion, produced a time of 3.757 seconds at 325.14 mph to jump from 11th to second in the U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster for Sunday's final day of racing, which begins at 11 a.m. (MST).

In Funny Car, Johnson delighted hundreds of guests from Make-A-Wish by completing his last of four attempts in 4.029 seconds at 316.08 mph to leap from seventh to second in DSR's Dodge Charger R/T that is funded by Terry Chandler to promote Make-A-Wish, which is headquartered in Phoenix.

In addition to Tony, DSR teammate Ron Capps and the NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge will be trying to defend Funny Car title he won a year ago at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park (formerly Firebird). Capps qualified ninth.

The most interesting first-round match-up DSR will be in Funny Car when Matt Hagan, who qualified 11th, faces DSR teammate and No. 6-seed Jack Beckman.
