LEWIS, BARTONE WIN IN BELLE ROSE

BELLE ROSE, La. (September 20, 2009) -- In the final results from No Problem Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Cajun Sportsman Challenge it was Brandon Lewis and Tony Bartone posting wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car.

The win gives Lewis the point's lead in the NHRA South Central Division over Malcolm Wahle who lost to David Brounkowski in round 2 setting up the final between Lewis and Brounkoski. Lewis ran strong all weekend with a 5.358 second, 271.62 mph pass to Brounkowski's tire smoking 7.507.

The funny car final was a match up of the No. 1 and No. 2 qualifiers with Bartone (No. 2) leaving Steve Harker, Gainesville, Ga., right off the line with a 5.688 second lap at 252.05 mph. Like Brounkowski, Harker smoked the tires and had no chance against Bartone.

A trio of Louisiana racers also scored wins this weekend with Brandon Chauvin, Gonzales, La., leading the group as he held off Howard Mc Cullar, McAlester, Okla., in the division's Sunset RaceCraft Top Sportsman class. Chauvin ran 6.839 seconds at 196.99 mph. Keith Raftery, Lake Charles, La., and Casey Allemand, Raceland, La., won in TCI Comp Cams Top Sportsman and in Stock Eliminator respectively. Raftery drove his '07 GTO passed Bob Gulitti, Tombell, Texas, with a lap of 6.905 seconds at 184.45 mph and Allemand beat former division champion Kevin Helms in his '95 Firebird.

Lisa Bennett made sure the female contingent was not shut out in taking the trophy in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson. Bennett of Lucas, Texas, won a close one over Ben Brown, Irving, Texas, 8.022, 165.60 to Brown's 8.054, 163.69.

Former NHRA National Champion Jimmy DeFrank, Thousand Oaks, Calif., made the long trip worth wild in beating Gary Emmons, Friendswood, Texas, in Super Stock while Chase Williams, Carthage, Texas, won over Bruno Massel, Woodbridge, Ill., in Comp Eliminator.

Others winning this weekend were Tommy Phillips, Forney, Texas, in Super Comp; Jim Cappiello, Willis, Texas, in Super Gas; and Ray Todd, Friendswood, Texas, in Super Street.

South Central Division racers head to Thunder Valley Raceway Park, Noble, Okla., for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, Oct. 23-25.
