Rookie Driver Disappointed with First-round Exit at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 7, 2007 -- A solid qualifying position and high hopes for a march deep into the Torco Racing Fuels Nationals elimination rounds ended rudely for Justin Humphreys Sunday at Virginia Motorsports Park.

Humphreys' Knoll-Gas Energy Pontiac GTO left the starting line with a .024-second reaction time to a .018 by Mike Edwards, and Edwards lit the win light in 6.681 seconds at 206.32 mph while Humphreys followed eight-thousandths of a second later in 6.683 at 207.11 mph.

"We thought we had the car to beat," Humphreys said following his loss to Mike Edwards. "He's not an easy guy to race but it's tough to beat any of the guys in the starting line-up. We missed the tune-up a little. We can't fix it now but we will learn from that and go on to Las Vegas (site of the next race, Oct. 26-28)."
