Early loss ends Line's chance at repeat championship

RICHMOND, Va. (October 7, 2007) -- Jason Line, driver of the KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment-backed Pro Stock Pontiac GTO, saw his chance to repeat as the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Championship when he was turned back in the opening round of eliminations at the second annual NHRA Torco Racing Fuels Nationals being held today at Virginia Motorsports Park (VMP).

Line covered the VMP quarter-mile in 6.648 seconds at 207.94 mph. His opponent Max Naylor numbers were 6.676 seconds at 205.22 mph.

Line, who was born and raised in Wright, Minn., and now resides in Mooresville, N.C., needed to go two rounds further than either Allen Johnson and/or Jeg Coughlin to become one of the four drivers that will advance to the final segment, the Countdown to 1. Line's loss, coupled with first round wins by both Johnson and Coughlin, ended this year's dream to repeat as the Pro Stock champ.

"I'm a little numb and definitely disappointed at the early loss," said Line. "We thought that our Summit Racing Pontiac could run with these guys but today we came out with the short straw. We'll go on to Las Vegas and Pomona and try to help Greg (Anderson, teammate) win his fourth championship."
