Will No. 9 at VMP, falls short in Technicoat Shootout
PETERSBURG, Va. (October 6, 2007) -- After an opening day of qualifying on Friday that had a little bit of everything -- rain, track problems, loss of power that plunged Virginia Motorsports Park (VMP) into total darkness -- on Saturday Hillary Will qualified her KB Racing LLC-owned, Kalitta Motorsports-managed Top Fuel dragster in the No. 9 position on the final qualifying ladder for this weekend's NHRA Torco Racing Fuels Nationals.
This moves Will to the opening elimination round against Doug Herbert tomorrow.
But Will came up 10 points short, finishing ninth, in her quest for a position in the eight-car Top Fuel Technicoat Shootout, a special $100,000 race-within-a- race, at the ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals (Oct. 25-28) at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
"We're definitely disappointed because we were seventh (in points) going into that session and we got bumped to ninth in the Technicoat Top Fuel Shootout," said Will following qualifying. "We really, really wanted to be in the Shootout and it dropped us out. It doesn't do us any good now, so we have to put the disappointment behind us and come out and do our best to win the race.
"A win would be special. Eric Medlen won here last year, his very last win. I'd like it to be our first win in his honor.
"I think it going to be an exciting day for race fans the way this Countdown is shaping up. Everything is so close. Our whole Top Fuel team is going to be rooting for our KB Racing Pro Stock teammates tomorrow. Greg (Anderson) has already clinched and Jason (Line) is close to the top four. We're 100-percent behind them and know that they can get the job done tomorrow."
