Ryan Newman (No. 12 alltel Dodge Avenger) "It was crazy. I think the racing was not very good. I think the racing was disappointing. To see single file racing and the guy that wins the race is sitting in the back all day just lounging around.
Ryan Newman (No. 12 alltel Dodge Avenger)
"It was crazy. I think the racing was not very good. I think the racing was disappointing. To see single file racing and the guy that wins the race is sitting in the back all day just lounging around. That's not racing to me. I hope it wasn't what NASCAR intended with this car. I'm not complaining about the car because the old car did relatively the same thing. We gotta do something where we can race a little bit. I mean I was driving around with one hand running 15th just riding, on and off the gas. It's not racing. If we're going to do that why don't we just make it a 100 mile race and we'll tear them all up in the first fifty."
WHAT HAPPENNED IN THE FINAL TWO LAPS "The 48, 24 and 25 they had the run on the inside and out-motored us, the 2 and the 12 on the outside. They got to a point where they got in front of us, they moved up and took the line away. The 20 got around us, pushed the 24 to the lead and that was all it took."
KURT BUSCH (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Avenger) ON THE RACE
"It was interesting. The cars like to be nose to tail as far as drafting. It seems like the side draft was not as affective so the rear wing allowed the air to escape off the decklid. That is why I saw more nose to tail racing. I did my best to push Newman to victory.
"Our day was great. We survived and finished in the top 10. We didn't quite lead a lap. It would have been nice to get the five bonus points for that. All in all we consider this a big success. You want to win every race you can but if you can't you need a top 10 finish."
REED SORENSON (No. 41 Target Dodge Avenger)
"It was a good run for us. We ran in the top 10 for most of the race and we managed to finish there, which is a good thing in a race like this. I think we were a little better than where we finished, but we got shuffled out and had to work our way back up there."
JUAN MONTOYA (No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge Avenger)
"I think we lost the engine in the last lap, a little bit. We started cracking, something started cracking, but it's okay."
DESCRIBE THE FINAL LAPS "My teammates were coming from behind and they closed the door; that didn't help me."
WAS THIS CAR BETTER AT THIS TRACK? "They were probably easier than with the old one."
A GOOD DAY, BUT NOT A GREAT DAY? "We finished. What else can you ask for at a place like this. For us it was a pretty smooth race."
KASEY KAHNE (No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Avenger)
"We had a real good day. At the end nobody would follow me. Cars would come and go all different directions. I couldn't get a car behind the last 18 laps. That was the whole problem. Other than that we had one of the better cars out there."
DAVID STREMME (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Avenger)
"It was fine. It wasn't too bad. It was fine. I just didn't have anyone to help me at the end."
ELLIOTT SADLER (No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Avenger)
AFTER THE CRASH "I hate talking about (Waltrip) like that but he had been driving like an idiot all day. He just took us out. I guess he feels like this is the only place he can win at. I don't know. I don't know what happened. I hate that we have a tore up race car maybe my teammate can rectify things. It's product of this type of racing. I hope the fans can see a good finish here.
"The car felt good. We just made some bad decisions up to that point and got stuck in the back. Things didn't work out like we wanted. It was a tough ending."
BOBBY LABONTE (No. 43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge Avenger)
ON THE ACCIDENT "It surprised me that's for sure. I looked at the right rear tire and it was up and the left rear tire was up. I'm not really sure what happened. There were no issues all day with anything. You don't fight a problem like that. All of a sudden I went in the corner and the rear end just came out from under us. My fault I know but I don't know how it happened. With the grip level and the way the cars are you don't have that. For some reason it just took off. We did have a good car and I hate that happened."
ON THE SINGLE FILE RACING "When I was behind Dale Jr. it was just go single file and make it to the end of the race. That is what it is all about. All the cars are so equal you can't really do anything so you just settle in and go single file."
KYLE PETTY (No. 45 American Spirit Motor Oil Dodge Avenger)
ON THE ACCIDENT "We had trouble with tires all day. They had been out of balance all day long. I had about four sets that vibrated. I have to apologize to Dale (Jarrett). He checked up over here and I ran all over him that's all there is to it. You can't see through the back of these cars. We were tagging along back there and I hate it for him."
