Lucas Oil/Charter Communications Chevy stops clock in 6.574 seconds

Dinwiddie/Richmond, Oct. 10, 2008 -- Dave Connolly, desperately in need of a Pro Stock victory in this weekend's Virginia Nationals, started the weekend on a good note by claiming the provisional No. 1 starting position with a career-tying 6.574 seconds at 209.07 mph at Virginia Motorsports Park

"Today was a pretty incredible day actually," said Connolly. "As far as qualifying goes, we are looking for four even sessions and so far we have two out of the way and we are still on top. That's great, especially coming here with Lucas Oil as the primary sponsor of the car this weekend, partnering with Charter Communications.

"There's nothing I'd like to do more than get the No. 1 spot and win the race. Right now, as far as the Countdown goes, we are struggling and we are a little behind. It's do or die. We need the extra eight points (for qualifying for No. 1) and four round wins on Sunday."

Connolly has two more runs Saturday to maintain his hold on the top spot.

Cagnazzi Racing teammate Ron Krisher (6.604 at 208.36) is 10th while series point leader and defending champion Jeg Coughlin is 13th (6.609 at 207.75).
