DINWIIDDIE, Va., Oct. 14, 2006 -- Cory McClenathan, determined to regain a berth in the POWERade Series top 10, begins that quest Sunday in the first round of the Torco Racing Fuels Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park.

His qualifying best of 4.569 seconds at 321.73 mph put him eighth and he races David Grubnic (ninth, 4.581 at 310.91) in the opening round.

"We're were happy with the 4.56," said McClenathan. "We were trying to run quicker on the last run (4.643 at 306.33) but the car spun the tires at the top end. Wes and Tony (Cerny and Shortall, crew chief and assistant crew chief, respectively) know the car will go down the track and can run in the mid-4.50s.

"Our goal now is to win some rounds on Sunday and get back in the top 10."
