Clear Sky's Allow for Thunderous Action at Silver Dollar
REYNOLDS, Ga. -- The fields have been set at the final Southeast divisional race in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Silver Dollar Raceway. Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Dan Mercier from St. Timothee, Quebec, and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Mickey Ferro of Stamford, Conn., took the top spots of the day.
Mercier set the bar in the Top Alcohol Dragster class with a time of 5.360 seconds at 277.03 mph just good enough to edge out Marty Thacker of Robinson, Ill. In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Ferro ran his '02 Camaro to the pole position which has him facing off against Mike Bell of Fulton, Mo., in the first round tomorrow.
Action in other classes included Larry Pritchett from Clarkrange, Tenn. , who drove his '06 Sunfire to the top of Comp Eliminator and John Fogle of Norway, S.C., doing the same in Super Stock. In Stock Eliminator Lithonia, Ga., resident McNeal Freeman came close enough to smell the top spot but fell just short of Tom Hemmingson from Concord, N.C., in a '66 Chevelle who ran an 11.767 second run to take the pole.
Keith Raftery from Lake Charles, La., had a step up on the competition in Top Sportsman with a time of 6.603 seconds at 199.17 mph. And last but not least was David Strain from Kenner, La., who was able to best competition from the likes of Steve Estes from Griffin, Ga., along with others to take the top spot in Top Dragster.
