CHARLOTTE (Sept. 15) - With all the Countdown worries behind him, Larry Morgan can bring his full attention to getting the Lucas Oil Ford Mustang down the track and deep into races, starting with Sunday's eliminations at the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals.
"These last two or three races leading up to this weekend have been some of the most stressful of my life," Morgan said. "Now it seems like we're a little more back to normal."
Morgan qualified No. 10 in the field with a best qualifying pass of 6.595 seconds at 209.46 mph. He takes on Ron Krisher who made a best pass of 6.580 at 210.50 mph and qualified No. 7.
"Ron made the Countdown too," Morgan said. "So if we can get around him, it will help us move up in the standings."
Morgan started the weekend just 20 points behind Krisher and 100 points behind leader Allen Johnson.
"We got a tremendous second chance by making this Countdown," Morgan said. "We can't let it pass us by. The car is getting better every pass and we'll need every fraction of a second we find in the tune-up."
Morgan has made his living at the starting line this season. He has six hole shot wins so far this season, and would not mind adding to that total at all on Sunday.
"I'll win 'em any way I can get 'em at this point," Morgan said. "We feel like if we can beat them off the starting line, we've got enough horsepower to beat them to the finish line.
"Things have been coming together for us the last few races and we're excited for the chance to get out there and beat the best the class has to offer."
