WEICKGENANNT QUALIFIED 15th FOR ELIMINATIONS

READING, PA - The Columbia, MD based fuel Funny Car team of Bob Weickgenannt and B & B Racing qualified for Sunday's eliminations at the Keystone Nationals. The team managed to lay down a pass of 5.250 second elapsed time at 269 MPH during Friday's first session and the run held for the remainder of qualifying. When the last session was complete, the Variform, Velux and Tenneco sponsored entry was solidly in the show in the 15th spot. Weickgenannt's first round opponent for Sunday's eliminations will be Whit Bazemore.

After a disappointing first pass on Saturday morning that resulted in one destroyed motor and a fire, the team worked diligently to repair the damage and to prepare for Sunday. Maple Grove is a notoriously difficult track to get down with a clean pass. The track installed a new 600' concrete pad at the start of the quarter mile, but the elapsed times show how tough the track can be. "Since they've worked on the track, the starting line and first 600' are great, after that the track is marginal", said Weickgenannt. "That makes is really difficult to tune the car to run hard the first half and soft the second half, but we did it for qualifying and look forward to tomorrow's eliminations." "This is the third event in a row in which we've qualified for eliminations, I'm proud of that fact and real proud of the team of guys we have that help us get the car down the track at each event."
