READING, Pa. (Sept. 14) - Miller Lite Top Fuel driver Larry Dixon will start Sunday's Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals from the No. 3 starting position at Maple Grove Raceway. Dixon, who started his day in the No. 1 position after running a superb Friday night time of 4.560 seconds, 320.28 mph experienced a rare engine drawback in the third qualifying session on Saturday afternoon. He had to wait until a brief rain shower stopped before he could post his final qualifying attempt. On his final run he recorded a solid baseline pass of 4.641 seconds, 316.52 mph.

"All we wanted to do was go down the racetrack and not blow up," said Dick LaHaie, veteran crew chief of the Miller Lite Dragster. "We know we can make it run better, but we didn't know why it blew up on that earlier pass. So we went up there and said let's go 4.64 or 4.65 and see if it's good and clean. It was, so now we can go back to racing."

In the first round of eliminations on Sunday, Dixon will race Scott Weis for the fifth time this season, all in first round. Dixon is 4-0 lifetime against his opponent.

Dixon enters the 18th race of the 23 NHRA National event tour in the No. 1 position in the NHRA POWERade point standings with a sum of 1,513 points and holds a 103-point lead over rival Kenny Bernstein.

ESPN2 will air final round coverage from 4:30-7:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday, Sept. 15. The start of the Lucas Oil Nationals will start promptly at 11:00 a.m.
