MOHNTON, Pa. (Oct. 8, 2004) - Two-time defending NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon powered his Miller Lite dragster to a run of 4.581 seconds at 318.47 mph Friday at Maple Grove Raceway to claim the provisional No. 6 qualifying position.

Dixon, a 35-time NHRA winner, drove to a pass of 4.612 at 315.93 in the Miller-backed rail on his opening effort of the weekend, before the veteran driver used a tune-up from champion tuner Dick LaHaie to record the 4.581, 318.47 pass on Friday evening to place the Don Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite dragster sixth in the Top Fuel order.

"We went down the race track on both runs," Dixon said. "We're in a better spot than last week and our qualifying position shows that. We'll come out on Saturday and try to qualify fourth or fifth. Nobody wants to be the first or second pair of cars to go on Sunday during eliminations."

Dixon aims to move up in the Top Fuel order on Saturday when qualifying sessions are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. (ET) at Maple Grove Raceway.

ESPN2 will broadcast two hours of final eliminations coverage from the Lucas Oil Nationals at 5 p.m. (ET) on Monday, Oct. 11.
