KJ Stays Strong, Will Start Second in Reading

Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco Cobalt Racing team completed another strong qualifying effort on Saturday, capturing the second qualifying position at the Toyo Tires Nationals in Reading, PA. In each of the last three qualifying sessions, Johnson was the second quickest of the 23 cars attempting to make Sunday's sixteen-car field, highlighted by his 6.614-second, 208.91 mph run in the third session on Saturday morning, which also equaled the fastest speed recorded in Pro Stock during qualifying.

This marks the third consecutive race in which Johnson has qualified second and 13th Top Five start in this season's seventeen races. Based on this solid showing, Johnson heads into race day cautiously optimistic about his chances.

"Day two is in the books in Reading, and I feel we have a car that we can win with. Just as we did in Brainerd, we changed things after every run, and our ACDelco Cobalt responded, picking up four hundredths from our worst run to our best. We made the right calls today, and ran well with a '.61 and a '.63, keeping pace with the very best out here.

"Our ACDelco Cobalt is very good, making its best run of qualifying in the final session, which puts us in a favorable position for Sunday. We don't have to keep trying to make a perfect run, because we came close to doing that this afternoon. All we need to do now is duplicate that effort four times tomorrow."
