FAST FACTS: The Top Fuel team of defending NHRA Winston champion Bernstein will have a different look at this event, as longtime crew chief Dale Armstrong quit Monday after nearly 16 years with Bernstein. Armstrong tuned Bernstein to four consecutive NHRA Winston Funny Car championships from 1985-88, the 1996 NHRA Winston Top Fuel championship and the sport's first 300-mph run, in 1992. Armstrong has served as Bernstein's crew chief since 1982 ...

Ed "The Ace" McCulloch, crew chief for Top Fuel standout Scott Kalitta, was fined $5,000 by NHRA for a confrontation with a fan in the pit area during the U.S. Nationals two weeks ago at Indianapolis that the NHRA Competition Committee deemed inappropriate. McCulloch is suspended from NHRA events until the fine is paid. He can appeal the fine within 30 days ...

Cory McClenathan has won four of the last five races in Top Fuel and has pulled into second in the NHRA Winston standings, 153 points behind Scelzi ... Whit Bazemore's victory at the U.S. Nationals pulled him to within 133 points of Funny Car leader Force ...
