READING, PA (Sept. 17) -- With the first day of qualifying on the books at the 13th Annual True Valve Keystone Nationals, Eddie Hill and the Pennzoil Top Fuel Dragster are solidly in the field at the number 7 spot. In Round 1, Hill fired off a 4.675 at 292.77 mph, to place him in the number 5 spot. As the sun set and the temperatures dropped the potential for quicker times increased. With every race team here in Reading shooting for a big number in the 2nd round, the top fuel tuners had to roll the dice.

"We are very happy with the way the car ran today. In the first round the car was real good at the start. At about 1000 feet it started to spin the tires, then dropped cylinders. We should have been a lot faster and still ended up in the top half of the field. That is a nice comfortable place to be. We took a look at the computer and addressed the problems we had. We stepped on the tune-up to try to take advantage of the cool night temperatures, as was every team on this parking lot. We went into the second round I with every intention of bettering our qualifying spot. We didn't do that, but we had to take a chance. Even though we smoked the tires in Round 2, I am still very pleased and encouraged. This car is running great. With the projected cool morning weather, we should be able to move up higher in qualifying. I feel confident that there is a better number in this car, and we are going to try and find it."

Qualifying continues on Saturday Sept. 18 with Round 3 and 4. Eliminations take place on Sunday Sept. 19 at 11:00 AM EST.
