HERBERT SNAGS ANOTHER TOP THREE POSITION
READING, Penn. (September 17, 2005) -- For the second consecutive race and fourth time this season, Doug Herbert will start eliminations from a top three position. Herbert drove his Snap-on Tools dragster to the No. 3 qualifying position Saturday at the Toyo Tires Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway.
Herbert turned in a 4.541-second pass at 318.92 mph to take the No. 3 spot. He will face newcomer Doug Foley in the first round. Foley earned the No. 14 position with a 4.632 pass at 318.69.
Final eliminations start at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
"We're just doing awesome because Wayne has this car turned around and we knew that was going to happen when he came on board with the Snap-on team," Herbert said. "He's working his tail off and the guys are pulling together and the results keep getting better and better every weekend. It's looking pretty good and it makes me feel great about going into the first round.
"The confidence is building up with me, the team and Wayne because of the way the car has performed. It just gets you excited and you know that it's going to make a good pass at the very least but it has the potential to make a great pass every time down the track."
Herbert also ran a 4.621 at 316.17, a 4.609 at 309.13 and a 4.560 at 318.39. Herbert and the team earned the third-highest point total for consistent performance in the Full Throttle Challenge. The Full Throttle award is given to the most consistent teams in qualifying.
"We had a good bunch of qualifying sessions," Herbert said. "We ran well every round and we ran good for the conditions. It's been a good weekend so far. To qualify so high for the second straight event spot says a lot about the way this team is working toward becoming more and more consistent."
ESPN2 will broadcast qualifying of the Toyo Tires Nationals on Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. while eliminations can be seen Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. and Sept. 23 at 3 a.m. Final eliminations begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18.
