MOHNTON, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2010) - Antron Brown raced his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to a semifinal finish Sunday afternoon at Maple Grove Raceway. It was his third straight semifinal finish at the Pennsylvania track as the 24-time NHRA winner remains seventh in the 2010 Countdown to 1 standings.

A day after qualifying his Matco Tools dragster in the No. 6 position at 3.863-seconds, Brown bested six-time IHRA champion Clay Millican, and seven-time NHRA champion Tony Schumacher, before falling to DSR teammate Cory McClenathan in the semifinals. Brown now has a mark of 30-21 in 21 races this season.

Brown, who was squaring off against the fellow Matco Tools Racing driver for the fifth time, used the jump out of the starting gate to score the narrow win on a holeshot. The Matco Tools flagship driver powered to a run of 3.871 seconds at 303.98 mph after blowing up the motor in his dragster. Millican, who made his first start of the season, posted a quicker, but losing run of 3.864 at 313.88. Brown is now 5-0 in his career against the Memphis, Tenn. racer. It was Brown's ninth career holeshot win in Top Fuel.

Facing off against Schumacher for the 19th time, Brown got a slight starting line advantage and drove to the wire-to-wire win to advance to the semifinals for the first time since the Seattle race in July. Brown used a tune-up from crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald to race the Matco-backed rail to a pass of 3.829 at 317.57. It was Brown's quickest and fastest pass of the weekend. Schumacher's Army car trailed with a run of 3.865 at 313.22. Brown is now 2-2 against Top Fuel's all-time winningest driver and 9-10 in 19 career matches.

Racing in the semifinals for the eighth time this season, Brown left first for the third time on Sunday and used a consistent Corraid/Oswald tune-up to race to a lap of 3.829 at 317.05, but it wasn't enough to defeat his teammate. McClenathan used low elapsed time of the round at 3.812 at 318.47 to advance to the final round against points-leader Larry Dixon. Brown is now 2-2 against the FRAM team this season.

"This was a good rebound weekend for our DSR Matco Tools team," Brown said. "We ran great all day and just missed it that round. We wanted to run a little quicker, but ran the same as the second round. It's all good though. Our team performed great and we put ourselves in position to have a strong finish to the year and move up in the standings."

The next NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event is the 10th annual NHRA Las Vegas Nationals, Oct. 28-31, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It is the penultimate event on the 2010 NHRA schedule. Brown qualified third at the fall Las Vegas race last October and raced to a second-round finish.
