ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (May 17, 2003) -- In the quickest and fastest field in Pro Mod history, Tim McAmis, from Hawk Point, Mo., took the top qualifying spot in the NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge being held this weekend as part of the NHRA K&N Filters SuperNationals presented by Pep Boys.

McAmis blazed the Old Bridge Township Raceway Park quarter-mile track in 6.097 seconds at 231.87 mph on his first qualifying pass on Saturday. His final run was almost a duplicate of the first when he recorded numbers of 6.097 seconds at 231.20 mph. His elapsed time (6.097 seconds) is both a career best for McAmis and national record for the NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge, an exhibition class on the NHRA national event circuit.

"We knew coming to Englishtown that the air was going to be killer," said McAmis. "We didn't change a thing on the car, it's the conditions we're running in. It makes everything so good. The motor's happy and it's hard to make a bad run. We wanted to be consistent today and I think our times show that.

"We need about another mile per to go after the speed record but we happy to get the E.T. record. To be the number one qualifier in the fastest, quickest field ever for Pro Mod, to me that is unbelievable, not to mention the points for the record. To me, if you can set a record with this field of cars, you're doing something."

The eight quickest Pro Mods square off tomorrow for the Englishtown title with eliminations getting underway at 11 a.m.

First-round pairings for Sunday's eliminations for the NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge, an exhibition class on the NHRA national event circuit, being held at the 34th annual NHRA K&N Filters SuperNationals presented by Pep Boys at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, the fourth of 10 events in the NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge. Pairings based on results in qualifying, which ended Saturday.
