Qualifying over for NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge and AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Shootout

ENNIS, Texas (September 25, 2004) -- Qualifying for the NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge, an NHRA exhibition class, being held in conjunction with this weekend's NHRA O'Reilly Fall Nationals, and for the AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Shootout has ended.

First things first.

In the final qualifying session, Fred Hahn nailed his third No. 1 of the year. Hahn in a '01 Corvette, owned by Jim Oddy, covered the Texas Motorplex quarter-mile in 6.207 seconds at 231.28 mph.

Rounding out the top half of the eight-car elimination field are: Tommy Grey, subbing for Von Smith in the Tommy Lipar Racing '04 Mustang is second; Jay Payne, who qualified for his first NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge, is third in a '67 Camaro; and Dennis Radford in a '01 Viper, the lone nitrous-powered car, qualified fourth.

The bottom half of the field finds Kirk Kuhns in a '01 Viper in fifth; Mike Ashley, who did not compete today due to the Jewish observance of Yom Kippur, put his '67 Shelby Mustang in sixth. Driving a '04 Grand Am, Zach Barklage is seventh and Danny Rowe, teammate to Ashley, in a '63 Corvette, hold the eight and final position.

Final eliminations for all classes get underway tomorrow at 11 a.m. This time is subject to change and reflect Central Daylight Time (CDT).

This was also the final race that the Pro Mod drivers could earn qualifying points for the eight-car AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Shootout. The Shootout features the eight most consistent Pro Mod qualifiers. Drivers began earning point at last season's Dallas event and concluded with qualifying at this weekend event.

The top eight qualifiers that will compete in the second annual AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Shootout, which will be held during qualifying for the fourth annual NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, October 29-31 are: 1.) Mike Ashley (51 points); 2.) Fred Hahn (36); 3.) Von Smith (36); 4.) Al Billes (26); 5.) Shannon Jenkins (23); 6.) Mike Janis (20); 7.) Zach Barklage (19); 8.) Mike Castellana (19). Results are unofficial until verified by AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Shootout Results Staff.
