Pomona, Calif., February 28, 2004 -- Reigning Funny Car champion Tony Pedregon posted an elapsed time of 4.857 seconds at 315.12 mph in today's morning session, to qualify the Quaker State Chevrolet Camaro 10th heading into tomorrow's final elimination's for the NHRA Winternationals, the first race of the 23-event NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

"We're really happy with the consistency we had today with our Quaker State Chevrolet Camaro," said Pedregon. "We look to take that momentum into tomorrow's eliminations and step it up a bit so we are competitive. We're still learning a lot about what this car wants and what it's likes and dislikes are and we're feeling good about where we are heading with this program."

"Both cars are in the show which is a bonus," said Pedregon. "It's great to be able to have the information from Cruz's car and vise versa, it really benefits both teams. We're very optimistic heading into tomorrow and look forward to going some rounds and working towards getting in the winner circle."

This is Pedregon's 193rd career start and he will be eyeing his 28th career victory as he prepares to defend his Winternationals title when final eliminations begin tomorrow at 11 a.m. (PST). He faces Cory Lee in the first round where Pedregon has a 4-2 advantage.

Television coverage of final eliminations can be seen on Sunday, February 29, on ESPN2 from 10:00 p.m. -- midnight. (ET)
